Your iLASIK™ Consultation
Your first iLASIK™ Evaluation:
At your first LASIK appointment, you will personally meet with Dr. Rapoza. Here he will examine and evaluate your eyes, confirm your candidacy, explain the procedure and answer all of your questions. Please bring or wear your current glasses, contact lenses or your vision prescription along with all personal history forms, previously sent to you at your first appointment. Your eyes will not be dilated at this appointment.
Your second iLASIK™ Evaluation:
If based upon the first exam, you are a candidate for laser vision correction, a second eye exam will be scheduled. This exam involves more extensive testing and measurements including computerized mapping of your eye, corneal analysis and wavefront testing, called WaveScan™ Wavefront, a diagnostic tool that provides individualized measurements of your eye.
For this exam, do not wear soft contact lenses for two weeks or hard contact lenses for three weeks prior to your appointment. Your eyes will be dilated at this appointment.
Since the iLASIK™ procedure offers the most individualized corrections available, we find that the majority of people who meet the age, general health and stable vision requirements may qualify for LASIK. However, Dr. Rapoza will only recommend candidates for LASIK who are likely to achieve optimal results. Because of this thorough screening process, 98% of Dr. Rapoza’s LASIK patients achieve 20/20 vision after the procedure and 75% achieve 20/15 or better.
- Your Personalized Vision Profile is createdPrior to your procedure, we implement 3-D mapping technology to create a “fingerprint” of your eyes so Dr. Rapoza can custom-fit the iLASIK™ procedure to you, based on the minute characteristics of your eye This system called WaveScan™ WaveFront measures the unique imperfections in your eye 25 times more precisely than standard methods used for glasses and contact lenses. The information garnered from the WaveScan will be combined with your individual visual needs and the results of your clinical examination to develop a unique treatment plan for each of your eyes.
- Preparing for your ProcedureOn the day of your procedure, you will be met by our LASIK Coordinator who will answer any remaining questions and offer an oral relaxation medication to help you feel comfortable. Once you are ready, you will be escorted to our state-of-the-art LASIK Suite where our surgical staff will prepare you for your procedure. Dr. Rapoza will then greet you, answer any remaining questions and commence the initial phase of the procedure.
- The ProcedureThis first step in the surgical process involves the creation of a thin custom corneal flap. Using an ultra-fast procedure called the IntraLase™ FS femtosecond laser, a 100% blade-free mechanism, a flap is created and then gently folded back in preparation for the next step, re-shaping the cornea. The second step is to deliver personalized vision correction based on the unique measurements of your eye. Using the WaveScan™, WaveFront™ 3-D mapping system, the ultra-precise VISX Star S4 IR™ excimer laser system gently reshapes your cornea, providing customized and individualized vision correction. Once completed, the corneal flap is placed back into position, where the healing stage immediately commences.
The iLASIK™ procedure itself takes only a few minutes per eye. Many patients begin seeing more clearly immediately after the procedure; however it may occasionally take several days for adequate vision to be achieved.
Based on detailed measurements, Dr. Rapoza uses the excimer laser to reshape your cornea. This combination of personalized measurements and surgical precision create a truly custom LASIK experience.
